Inspired by a recent post from ‘Haiku Bob’, The Footy Almanac’s own Haiku doctor, I’ve written a few whilst wandering around the beautiful Great Ocean Rd this morning.

Bob has kindly provided some valuable insights and examples of Haikus from the recent 2026 AFL Grand Final Haiku Kukai. If you’d like to see his brilliant post it’s here.

I know they are way off the mark but I’m having a crack anyway.

Relentless Southern Ocean

Defiant limestone monoliths

Never give in

The sea don’t care

If we stand and stare

It just keeps rolling in   (Lynda gave me this one)

Bull Ant dragging worm

Punching above its weight

Just like Michael Tuck

World’s greatest milkshake

Icy cold and thick

In the can

I can’t write poetry to save myself so I’m hoping I can grasp Haiku. Clearly there’s a long way to go but I like the immediacy of them, especially when my attention span leaves a lot to be desired. Big thanks again to Bob.

Here are some more photos from a perfect day on The Great Ocean Rd.
