Fitzy was recruited to Werribee from Geelong via Footscray and was one of the best defenders in the club’s history. Sadly he was injured for the 1993 premiership but he contributed enormously to the team’s success and beyond.

He was also an imbecile of the highest order and coupled with his village idiot mate Cameron Wright, they could be relied upon to reek havoc in any social occasion. They were both joined at the hip and it’s pleasing to hear that they have both gone on to lead happy and meaningful lives as opposed to the moronic and shallow ones they participated in during the 90’s.

Fitzy for all his Neanderthal behaviour was actually a closet perfectionist. He always prepared extremely well physically and mentally for training and games and prided himself on his appearance. Always immaculately groomed and wearing the latest polo shirt and running shorts, he was on the cutting edge of contemporary sports fashion.

Where Fitzy could sometimes let himself down was in the speech department. He was a “fast talker” and depending on how many drinks he had, interpreting what he was saying could range from difficult to impossible. The song Greg and I wrote hopefully encapsulates the big fella. At the time we weren’t sure he did, but his teammates did, so he thought it must be good! That was Fitzy. If it was good for the team well so be it! I also sang this song impersonating Fitzy which in the end I think he found flattering given it meant extra attention!

Personally, I always thought he was let go too early by Geelong but their loss was our gain. Thanks for your hefty contribution to the Werribee FC Fitz.

Enter “I Always Look Good to Me” sung to Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock n Roll to Me”.

What’s the matter with the clothes I’m wearing

Can’t you tell that they’re all in style

Maybe I should wear my Nike singlet

And my pink Puma shorts for a while

Chorus

Where have I been working out lately honey

You can’t look good unless you spend a lot of money

It’s the next wave, new phase, dance craze

Anyway, I always look good to me

What’s the matter with my new hair style

I brush it back with both of my hands

Maybe I used to be a block head

But now I look like Jason Donovan

Repeat Chorus

What’s the matter with the way I’m talkin’

Can’t you understand a word I say?

Maybe I should go to speech therapy

Or back in time to the old stone age

Repeat Chorus
