Chappy was recruited to WFC from Geelong West I think. A tall lanky defender with “Inspector Gadget” arms he was an outstanding natural footballer with a huge laconic nature. Any more relaxed he would be lying down! It’s fair to say Chappy’s enthusiasm for the contest didn’t reflect in his training habits! His laid back nature just didn’t allow for excessive exercise and he did whatever he could to avoid it. This song was a tribute to his ability to vanish during the week. Just so we are clear the reference to drug taking is only a creative perception exaggerating Chappy’s chilled nature. At no stage are we suggesting he smoked marijuana. Reality was we were jealous that Chappy could do so little on the track and still play so well!

As a centre half back, Chappy was uncanny at reading the play and getting that fist in just when his team mates needed him. A fantastic guy and we hope to see him more over the coming years.

Enter “Chappy’s Song” sung to Simon and Garfunkel’s “El Condor Pasa”.

I’d rather be in the rooms than on the track

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

Chorus

Away, I’d rather sail away

Will I go to train

Oh no I won’t

Through the week, I am out of sight

But I’m back again, come Friday night…. late Friday night

I’d rather get a rub than do warm up

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather see the physio than do weights

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather have a bong than do wind sprints

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather get some ice than pay the price

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

Repeat chorus

I’d rather have a shower than hear the teams

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather be at home than at the club

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather be asleep than awake

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

I’d rather be dead than alive

Yes I would, if I could, I surely would

Repeat Chorus
